Hi, nice to meet you!
My real name is Deniz A., but you can call me “Deniza”. I am a medical student living in Germany, turning a doctor in a couple of months. I have a huge passion for endocrinology, sports and nutritional medicine and aim to specialize in those fields.
I struggled with back pain due to Scoliosis and hip dysplasia from childhood to the age of 18. Unfortunately, no doctor or physiotherapist was able to help me in my condition. I read dozens of papers on Sports Medicine and Science and was able to decrease my pain with proper strength training and a special training method, called Biofeedback.
In the beginning, fitness was my tool to decrease pain and become self-confident. Then, I started to fall in love with training and enjoy feeling strong, being able to shape my body and relieve the stress of my daily life as a med student or intern at the clinic.
In addition to that, I have had issues with my digestive system since early childhood. I had my first surgery at 5 years old, at 18 years my gall bladder was removed. Also, most of my relatives passed away or fought against cancer. This lead me to dive deeper into healthy nutrition and trying to fight diseases with real food. I developed a healthy relationship with food, eating clean most of the day but also allowing myself to have little treats every day. No food is off limits for me, as long as I stay on track the rest of the day. In the end, no food, as delicious as it may be, is worth it for me to risk my health. If I know something has ingredients that could be causing cancer, I would rather never eat that food again.
Today, I am able to listen to my body and recognize when it needs more of certain foods. I am able to stay “fit” year around and never deprive myself of not-so-healthy foods.
The idea behind “Fit with Deniza”
I consider my fight against scoliosis as my biggest achievement to this moment. Did you know that in the almost 8 years I have spent building strength and muscle, I have never payed a cent for a gym membership or hired a coach?
8 years of reading research papers every day, while my peers were partying and having fun. I don’t regret a minute because this is how “Food and Fitness as Medicine” was born. I have gathered so much knowledge and there is so much more to come when I start working as a doctor. I want to be able to reach more people than just my patients in real life, so fitwithdeniza.com is the perfect platform for me to do that.
